Accessibility Statement

BESSview, operated by Birdview Energy B.V.

Last updated: 15 October 2026

This statement describes how accessible the BESSview web application is, which known limitations remain, and how you can report a problem.

1. Scope

This statement covers the BESSview web application, including the sign-in, registration and account pages. The user documentation under /docs is published separately and is not covered by the October 2026 evaluation.

2. Standard

BESSview aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is the level referenced by the European standard EN 301 549 and by the European Accessibility Act.

3. Conformance Status

BESSview is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard. The known limitations are listed in section 6.

4. How We Evaluated

Birdview Energy carried out a self-evaluation in October 2026. It covered the main screens: the dashboard, locations, simulation set-up and results, expense templates, system settings, and sign-in and registration. We used:

  • the WAVE browser extension and axe-core;
  • keyboard-only use, without a mouse;
  • both the light and the dark colour theme.

An automated axe-core check runs in the test suite for every release.

No evaluation by an external party and no testing with screen-reader users has taken place yet.

5. What We Have Done

  • Every form control has a programmatic label, visible help text and linked error messages.
  • Dialogs are native and can be operated with the keyboard. Focus returns to the triggering control when a dialog closes.
  • Every page has a skip link and page landmarks.
  • Text colours meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 in both themes.
  • Decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology, and icon buttons have accessible names.
  • Charts carry a text description. Result charts also offer the underlying data as a table.
  • The tutorial video has captions.
  • Animations respect the reduced-motion setting of your operating system.

6. Known Limitations

  • Charts. Charts are drawn on a canvas. Their values are available through the text description and the table alternative, not by exploring the chart itself.
  • Location map. The location map is visual. The coordinates and address are shown as text next to it.
  • Heatmaps. Day-level heatmaps use many small cells. Each cell is a labelled button, but the grid is dense to navigate.
  • Small text. Some tables and result cards use 12 pixel text.
  • Payment pages. Payment pages are provided by Mollie and are outside our control.
  • Reports. Excel and PDF reports generated by BESSview have not been evaluated.
  • Documentation. The user documentation site has not been evaluated.

7. Feedback and Contact

If you run into an accessibility problem in BESSview, please e-mail us at info@birdviewenergy.ai. It helps us if you include:

  • the address of the page;
  • what went wrong, or what you could not do;
  • the browser and any assistive technology you used.

We aim to respond within ten working days.
